Plant Controller

General Summary

The Red Valve Plant Controller is a key leader on the Gastonia plant leadership team. Contributes to all areas of plant management and provides strong financial leadership by being a business partner to the Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain.

In addition to accommodating the local accounting needs at the Gastonia site, the Plant Controller supports the overall accounting function for Red Valve as an integral member of the accounting staff located at the corporate offices in Pittsburgh, PA. This includes significant involvement in month end close procedures, and as such will require periodic travel to Pittsburgh to facilitate coordination of financial close activities. The position reports to the Red Valve Finance Leader with a dotted line to the Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain at the Plant in Gastonia.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Ensure that accounting policies and procedures are adhered to according to Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) and company policies.
  • Become an expert user of the IT resources utilized by Red Valve, namely, the EPICOR ERP System for manufacturing and local general ledger functions. Support the transition of EPICOR to Net Suite.
  • In coordination with the Supply Chain Manager and Shipping Supervisor, ensure proper sales cutoff and revenue recognition.
  • Responsible for development of an accurate Red Valve revenue forecast based on analysis of orders released to production and planned shipments.
  • Provide financial and operational reports required for comprehensive decision support to the VP of Operations and Supply Chain, including detailed analysis of monthly actual financial results.
  • Provide value added recommendations to management to enhance profitability through efficiency, quality, productivity, and/or cost initiatives.
  • Lead or actively participate in lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Responsible for standard cost and inventory valuation, and compliance with the cost and inventory procedures at the Gastonia, NC manufacturing site.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and regulatory policies, including but not limited to Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Provide support for month end financial close procedures, including Journal Entries and other transactional duties such as production postings.
  • Organize and conduct physical inventory counts and cycle counts, including investigation and resolution of variances and issues.
  • Maintain the standard cost system, review and update standard costs in the bill of materials, methods of manufacturing and re-roll costs annually or as necessary.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a college or university in Accounting and a minimum of 5 years related Accounting experience and/or training
  • CPA/CMA preferred
  • Manufacturing experience required
  • Subject matter expert in the use of ERP systems, ideally Net Suite
  • Expert financial acumen
  • Must have advanced knowledge of standard costing, variances and operational improvements
  • Advanced technical understanding of accounting concepts
  • Advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Intermediate project and time management skills
  • Intermediate ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
  • Intermediate leadership and supervisory skills
